Adsorption of organic water pollutants by clays and clay minerals composites: A comprehensive review

نویسندگان

چکیده

Clays and clay minerals are inexpensive, non-toxic, naturally occurring that have been utilized in water remediation as adsorbents. However, clays those modified with heat, surfactants, acids, or organic-inorganic modifiers exhibit low adsorption capacity re-generation ability towards organic pollutants. The development of composites has gained considerable attention recent years due to their enhanced capacity, ease recovery from aqueous solution improved physiochemical properties relative raw minerals. This review aims assess literature on including bentonite, montmorillonite kaolinite intercalated carbonaceous, metals, metal oxides, chitosan polymeric materials appraise performance examines the effect composites' physicochemical evaluates mechanism well regeneration methods. also attempts highlight current progress this area by assessing outcomes recently published articles outline research gaps for future research.

Killer Clays! Natural antibacterial clay minerals

Clay minerals have been used in medicinal applications since Aboriginal times (Carretaro, 2002; Wilson, 2003). Clay poultices are used to heal wounds; people eat clays to coat stomach linings and soothe indigestion; animals eat clay containing trace elements (e.g., As) that can kill worms. The reasons that various clay minerals are effective as medicines may be as variable as the ailment, but b...

Twelfth National Conference on Clays and Clay Minerals

Studies have been made on muscovite single crystals treated under dry and hydrothermal conditions at temperatures above 800~ The course of reaction is markedly affected by the amount of water present in the system. In the presence of a large excess of water, appreciable reaction commences at 8(~0~ with the formation of kalsilite and corundum. The kalsilite may bear an epitaxial relationship to ...

Triazine adsorption by saponite and beidellite clay minerals.

We investigated the sorption of three triazine herbicides (atrazine, simazine, and metribuzin) by saponite and beidellite clay minerals saturated with K+, Cs+, Na+, and Ca2+. Saponite clay sorbed a larger fraction of each pesticide from aqueous solution than did beidellite clay. The lower cation-exchange capacity in saponite compared to that in beidellite presumably results in a less crowded in...

Adsorption of coliphages T1 and T7 to clay minerals.

Coliphages T1 and T7 of Escherichia coli were absorbed by kaolinite (K) and montmorillonite (M). Maximum adsorption of T7 (96%) to M was greater than that of T1 (84%), but the adsorption of both coliphages to K was the same (99%). Positively charged sites (i.e., anion exchange sites) on the clays appeared to be primarily responsible for the adsorption of T1 to K but only partially responsible f...
